About Me

What started as banter in a curry house... ended up as me entering Iron Man 2011 in Nice; a triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon (26.2 miles, 42.195 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. So I dug out the arm bands, attached the stabilisers and dusted off the muddy trainers and training has begun... While putting myself through this torture I thought it would be a good idea to raise money for a worthwhile cause. The charity I have chosen is The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. www.cftrust.org.uk If you would like to sponsor me in my feat and give money to the CF Trust, you can donate at the link below. www.justgiving.com/Simon-Bawden

Week Twelve

Swam 180 lengths
Biked 90
Ran 15km

With longer sessions on the bike I have recently purchased in the sale a very fetching pair of thick padded cycling shorts and after a two hour ride I no longer have a numb bum.  I have also purchased a helmet and a pair of cycling shoes, one small problem.... still no bike!  Testing out a Cube bike next week, so hopefully I will riding on the roads soon.  Starting to try out energy gels whilst training and finding that they are very effective for sustaining high intensity training sessions, although orange gel tastes like no orange fruit I have ever eaten!  Till next week role on Pain! Oh and black current flavoued gels !
